Alfonso Cardenas, 79, died May 3, 1994 in Fairfield, California.
He was born November 17, 1914 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico to Ramon and Refugio Gallardo Cardenas. He was the founder and a president of the Mexican Civic League in Salt Lake City. He was a member of the Catholic Church. He formed a Little League baseball program in Rose Park. He was a boilermaker with Kennecott Copper for 30 years. He retired and moved to San Luis Potosi, Mexico.He is survived by his wife, Lupe Cardenas and son, Alfonso (Janis) Cardenas, Jr., all of Fairfield, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Chris Cardenas of Hesperia, Calif.; sisters, Lucia Castro of San Juis Potosi, Mexico; and Socorro Valdez of Salt Lake City; six grandchildren and one great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a son, Thomas Cardenas.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 715 West 300 North. A vigil service will be held Friday, at 7 p.m. at Neil O'Donnell & Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South, where friends may call 6-7 p.m. Committal, Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
