An Ogden man was killed on impact when he was struck by a train while walking across the tracks on Main Street in Clearfield Tuesday afternoon, according to Clearfield police.
Killed was:Patrick P. Alumbaugh, 43, of Ogden.
Police said Alumbaugh, who they described as mentally handicapped, ducked under the lowered crossing arms at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing at 200 S. Main Street just after 1 p.m. Tuesday. Alumbaugh was coming from the nearby Pioneer Adult Rehabilitation Center where he worked, police said.
Witnesses reported that Alumbaugh ducked under the barricades, but when the train engineer sounded the warning horn, the victim tried to scramble out of the way. The southbound train, traveling about 60 mph, hit Alumbaugh and knocked him 125 feet, police said, killing him immediately.
