The Sevier County Commission has kept its financial promise to neighboring Sanpete County.

A final payment of $8,800 as Sevier County's share to help finance land purchases for the Central Utah Correctional Facility is in Sanpete County's general fund coffers. When Sanpete County worked toward getting the prison located in that area, it offered to contribute the site near Gunnison to the state. Because commissioners in that county felt Juab and Sevier counties would gain economic benefit from the prison, they asked for financial support to buy the property.

Sevier County commissioners pledged to contribute 30 percent of the $88,000 needed to buy the land for the facility. The property was purchased from several private land owners and was bought and paid for by Sanpete County prior to the beginning of construction for the prison.
