A special order by Uinta National Forest supervisor Peter W. Karp will temporarily close the new Co-op Creek and Chicken Creek Roads, located north of Strawberry Reservoir, for public safety during winter months and to protect elk from disturbance during calving season.
This closure will remain in effect until approximately June 30. Snowmobiles are exempt from this closure when there is sufficient snow to cover the road surface. The closure on Co-op Creek Road (forest development road No. 082) begins at the Sleepy Hollow parking lot, and ends at the head of Paa Creek, a distance of approximately four miles. The closure on Chicken Creek Road (forest development road No. 245) begins at the old forest boundary, approximately one mile north of U.S. 40, and ends at the intersection with the Co-op Creek Road, a distance of approximately 7.5 miles.
Most forest roads on the Heber Ranger District will remain snow-packed and impassible through May. Higher elevations will remain impassible through mid-June.
Forest officials advise travelers to avoid wet and muddy roads during spring months and to stay on paved or dry roads to minimize road damage.
