State regulators have petitioned to revoke the dental and prescription licenses of Ogden dentist Dr. Gregg T. Nielsen.
Nielsen recently pleaded guilty to three felony counts of aggravated sexual abuse and two felony counts of attempted sexual abuse. A petition released Wednesday by the state Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing said that a dentist convicted of a crime is also guilty of unprofessional conduct, which is grounds for revocation. One of Nielsen's alleged victims was a former patient and an employee, who was 13 years old when the abuse took place, the petition said.
Second District Judge Stanton Taylor two weeks ago sentenced Nielsen to a year in jail. The sentence will be reviewed in six months for Nielsen's possible release to a treatment program.
The judge also granted Nielsen work-release time away from the jail so he can keep up his dental practice and remain involved in various community volunteer projects, such as the American Cancer Society and performing den-tal work in Third World countries through the LDS Church.
Under licensing procedures, a state-appointed board of dental professionals will consider the petition soon and recommend to the division what action to take against Nielsen's license. A board hearing date has not yet been set.
At Nielsen's four-hour sentencing hearing, Weber County prosecutor Gary Heward said the charges represented more than 100 incidents of illegal sexual contact with the three girls. Two psychologists testified Nielsen is a treatable pedophile.
