Salt Lake Mayor Deedee Corradini cons the public again by first double-talking us then double-crossing us.
She pretends to be outraged because Salt Lake City residents pay a tax for Salt Lake County paramedics, which we do not use. Corradini claims this is double taxation. We agree. But Corradini actually couldn't care less about Salt Lake City residents. She is doing to the golfers what she claims the county is doing to the city. She is forcing golfers to pay a tax for recreation we do not use. That's double taxation - same as the county's paramedics scheme.
The mayor has exempted one class of people from paying taxes and then forced another class of people - the golfers - to pay the tax of those she has exempted. This violates the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which deals with equal protection under the law.
The irony of all this is that although Corradini acknowledges that recreation is the county's responsibility, she continues to permit city residents to pay a county tax for recreation they do not get and for golfers to pay the county tax as well as the city tax for recreation they do not use. This is double-double taxation.
Corradini's outrage at the county for its financial shenanigans has as much worth as Bonneville Pacific stock. She is yelling "wolf" when, in essence, she is the wolf.
