The city started its own ambulance service this week with one full-time ambulance stationed at the two Layton fire stations.

"We're now a full operating ambulance service," Fire Chief Allan Peek told the City Council.Peek said the service's first call came Tuesday morning when an 88-year-old female with back pains requested transportation to the hospital.

The city has spent an estimated $45,500 on beginning ambulance service this year and is seeking City Council approval of $172,000 to operate the service in fiscal 1994-95.
