Rep. Bill Orton stated that Rep. Jim Hansen is very predictable in his votes in Congress, always voting no. Orton feels that Hansen is blocking progress.

Thomas Jefferson, the founder of the Democratic Party, believed in a strict adherence to the separation of federal-state functions and powers. That is the first requirement for a true liberal Jeffersonian Democrat.Laws dealing with health, quarantines, property, civil rights, police, militia, the press, banking institutions, reputation, religious freedom and all other concerns of a domestic nature would be left to the states.

As you can see, a member of Congress voting for almost anything on the Clinton-Gore agenda, which deals primarily with "the general welfare," would not be a true liberal Jeffersonian Democrat. Such a politician should go, not to the nation's, but to the state's capital, where such issues are correctly considered under the Constitution given us by the Founding Fathers.
