The mere mention of Vietnam spawns memories and images of the tumultuous era of U.S. history known as the '60s. Along with rock music and race relations, Vietnam was a daily influence in our lives that undeniably shaped the way Americans think about America.

With some 20 years since the end of the war, the United States now is poised to do business-- economically, emotionally and politically-- with that small, but ever-so-important nation.Recently, Deseret News staff writer Steve Fidel and features editor Carma Wadley, on separate excursions, immersed themselves into the diverse Vietnam of the 1990s. Beginning Sunday, and continuing for six days, they'll detail what they found there.
