Salle Auriol of Portland, Ore., repeated as women's epee team champion Friday night with a 5-2 over Santelli of New Jersey in the gold medal bout at the U.S. National Fencing Championships here in Salt Lake City.

"Our motto," said Laura Maskell, who had three of the victories, "is to hit 'em high, hit 'em hard and hit 'em often. We've been national champions six out of the last 11 years because we support each other and believe in each other. Win or lose, we stay upbeat and that has been the key to our success."Santelli made it to the finals on the strength of Donna Stone, who defeated and frustrated Maskell earlier in the week in the battle for the women's individual epee crown.

"Yeah, there was a little revenge motive for me," Maskell said, "I was able to win tonight because I stayed relaxed and knew that if I lost, one of my teammates would put us right back in front."
