SHARE RDT HEADS FOR GERMANY TO DANCE HUMPHREY PROGRAM AT FESTIVAL

The Repertory Dance Theatre departed from Salt Lake International Airport on Thursday for appearances at the Internationales Tanzfestival NordRhein-Westfalen, with headquarters in Leverkusen, Germany. The company will dance an all-Doris Humphrey program in three different locations of the regional festival: in Wuppertal on June 12, in Leverkusen on June 14, and Dusseldorf on June 16.

Their program will consist of "Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor," with music by Bach, which Jose Limon called "an incomparable masterpiece, a zenith"; "The Shakers," a theatrical glimpse of a Shaker service; "Day on Earth," a deeply human statement about the family, with score by Aaron Copland, performed live by Salt Lake pianist Ricklen Nobis; and "`With My Red Fires," a ritualistic dance drama inspired by poetry of William Blake, with music of Wallingford Reigger.The festival theme is "100 Years of Modern Dance - from Isadora to Pina." Among other festival performers are the Meryl Tankard Dance Theatre of Australia; Isadora Duncan Dance Ensemble of Miami, Florida; Eiko & Koma, Japanese dancers headquartered in New York City; Compagnie Marie Chouinard of Montreal, Canada; and of course Pina Bausch, Germany's leading exponent of modern dance, whose headquarters are in Wuppertal.
