The Davis Energy Recovery District recently voted to increase its tipping fees for the burn plant/landfill. The new fees for commercial users were made effective June 1 (not July 1 as previously reported), while the residential customers will face increased costs beginning Aug. 1.

Here's a summary of the new prices:- General tipping fee for household and commercial solid waste: $62 a ton.

- Construction, clean fill, yard waste and demolition debris: $18 a ton, with a $7 minimum charge per load.

- Special handling fee for materials that require special disposal: $20 per ton above the $62 a ton fee.

- Tires larger than 45 inches in diameter will not be accepted. Tires will be assessed at $2 per tire for loads less than 10 tires. Otherwise, tire dumping will cost $82 a ton.

- Friable asbestos disposal: $400 a ton, with a $20 a load minimum.

- Non-friable asbestos: $82 a ton.

- Asphalt: $62 a ton.

- Medical waste: 25 cents per pound; $20 minimum charge per load.

- Animal carcasses: $62 a ton; $10 minimum a load.

- City spring and fall cleanup periods: $5 a load for private citizens and one-half the standard cost for cities.
