Gideon Eugene "Gid"/"Gene" Mumford, 71, of Clifton, Idaho and formerly of Sandy, Utah died on June 11, 1994 in Salt Lake City following surgery for liver disorder.
Born June 5, 1923 in Sandy to Victor Emmanuel Mumford and Catherine Barr Neff. Graduated of Jordan High School. He married Betty Jo Peirson in the Logan LDS Temple on July 11, 1946 and was a successful dairy farmer. He enjoyed and excelled in sports and games, especially bowling and golf.Always active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in all callings extended to him, including bishop of the Sandy 19th Ward, High Council Sandy West Stake, and in the Clifton 2nd Ward as teacher, member of the bishopric and high priest group and family history consultant. He served with his companion as a missionary in the Washington, DC LDS Temple from 1991-92 and later as an ordinance worker at the Logan LDS Temple. He was always a righteous patriarch of his family.
He is survived by his wife of Clifton, Idaho; his children and their spouses, Sherida and Terryl Lee of Murray, Utah; Ronald and Carol Mumford, Jeffrey and Betty Jean Mumford, Lisa and Murray K. Sears, all of Clifton; 21 grandchildren and still counting, with two on missions and two departing; brothers, V. Wayne, Frank and Ferris of Sandy; Max of South Jordan; sister, Barbara Ballard of Draper; and Betty Jo's mother, Hazel Pierson of Sandy. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Blanche; his brother, Lyle; and his granddaughter, Rebecca "Becket".
Funeral services are scheduled for 12 noon, Wednesday, June 15, at the Clifton LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Lyle Henderson conducting. Viewing at the Webb Funeral Home from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday and from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Clifton LDS Ward on Wednesday. Interment at the Clifton Cemetery.
