The candidacy of Merril Cook as an Independent bothers me. I have nothing against Cook. But it seems to me that his candidacy would guarantee the re-election of Karen Shepherd - just like the candidacy of Ross Perot guaranteed the election of Bill Clinton. Splitting the conservative vote leaves the field wide open for the liberals. We have too many of those already.
Shepherd has done a few good things and cast a few favorable votes. But the majority of her votes has been along the strict liberal line - the tax, spend and control liberal agenda. And her vote in a few cases has been the deciding vote. Too many of her votes have been contrary to the wishes of the majority of the people of Utah.Having the conservative vote split between the Republican and Independent parties would not elect either of them, but would guarantee a Democrat election.
