It never ceases to amaze me the lack of compassion that our so-called civilized Christian nation has towards the less fortunate. There has been a lot of discussion lately on the use of educational funds for the rehabilitation of convicted criminals. We seem to be too eager to attack someone less fortunate than ourselves rather than deal with the real issues.
Educational grants are given to the recipients based on their financial needs and their intent to participate in an educational experience. If an incarcerated member of our society fits into this category, then why do we express so much hatred? Our Constitution provides for the punishment of those who breach the laws of our society, yet we feel that we are entitled to heap more punishment on the less fortunate whenever our cup is not running over. If you have a problem with the amount of money available to finance your educational endeavors, then why don't you lobby for the support of our grossly underfunded educational budget and allow some of the less fortunate to pull themselves up to a higher plane?
