SHARE SAN JUAN BUS DRIVER WINS 1ST PLACE AT BYU `ROADEO’

Kent Hawkins of the San Juan School District won first place in the expert division of the Utah School Bus Roadeo held recently at Brigham Young University.

Second place went to Julie Gerber, Salt Lake District; third to Kent Lewis, San Juan; fourth to Mike Barela, Jordan District; fifth to Steve Olsen, San Juan; and sixth to Gail Sorensen, Granite District.In the novice division, first- and second-place winners, respectively, were Slade Buhler and Cindy Workman, both of Jordan District.

Hawkins and Gerber will represent Utah in the National School Bus Safety Roadeo competition. Contestants take a written test, inspect a school bus to detect safety violations and then maneuver their buses through an obstacle course that has 12 safety features.
