Kate Allred Whetten, age 83, of Provo, died June 12, 1994.
She was born September 20, 1910 in Raymond, Alberta, Canada, to J. Urban Allred and Amelia May Hammond. She married Lester Benjamin Whetten, June 18, 1930 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada. He preceded her in death in 1988.Kate received her bachelor's degree from BYU, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She taught elementary school in the Provo area for several years. Kate and Lester served as mission president in Mexico City and Guadalajara, Mexico, and as regional representative in El Salvador, Spain and Portugal. She served as a counselor in the Western States Mission Relief Society presidency, counselor for the West Colorado District Relief Society. She served in various Relief Society and Primary callings wherever she lived. She served in the BYU 3rd Stake Relief Society stake presidency, and as a Provo temple ordinance worker.
She is survived by three sons and one daughter, Lawrence Lester Whetten, of Munich, Germany; Mary Ann Lyman (Richard), Blanding, Utah; John Dilworth Whetten (Becky), Alamo, Calif.; David Allred Whetten (Zina), Urbana, Illinois; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother and three sisters, David Allred, Ruth Dallimore, Lucille Zenger, and Eileen Bell.
Funeral services will be held under the direction of Berg Mortuary of Provo, Saturday, June 18, 1994, 12 noon at the Edgemont 2nd Ward Chapel, 555 East 3230 North, Provo. Friends may call at the ward chapel from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Interment: East Lawn Memorial Hills.
