A Weber County girl and a Kearns man were killed Tuesday in separate auto accidents.

Killed were:Stephanie White, 10, Riverdale.

Donald James Wright, 31, Kearns.

White died after the car she was riding in collided with another vehicle while attempting to turn onto U.S. 89 at 2250 North in Pleasant View, said Pleasant View detective Dale Bridges.

White, who was not restrained, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead en route to the hospital, Bridges said. Two other passengers were transported to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden and are in stable condition. A baby in a car seat was not injured, Bridges said.

Wright was killed when the truck he was driving smashed nearly head-on into a cement truck in West Valley City.

Wright was driving south on 5600 West near 4420 South at about 8 a.m. when he crossed over the center line. West Valley police Sgt. Lynn Hanson said witnesses said it looked as if Wright was going to turn left.

He then swerved back to avoid the oncoming cement truck, which caught Wright's full-size Ford pickup and swung it around, said officer Mark Lorenz. Wright's truck turned sideways and was pushed off the road, landing on its top. Wright died instantly.

Lorenz said he doesn't think Wright was wearing a seat belt.

There was minimal damage to the cement truck, and the driver was not hurt.

An investigation is pending.
