Sondra "Soni" Adams, women's basketball coach at Salt Lake Community College for the past four years and former University of Utah star player, has been appointed head women's basketball coach at Brigham Young University.

The announcement was made today by Lu Wallace, administrator of women's athletics at BYU.Adams replaces Jeanie Wilson, who resigned in March.

"It is a pleasure to have Soni join our staff as the head coach of women's basketball," said Wallace.

"Soni has a deep love of the sport and a genuine interest in the overall development of the individual as a student and an athlete.

"She has been very successful as an assistant coach at a Division I level and most recently as the head coach of a junior college. She has proven that she has the knowledge, skills, and ability to move our women's basketball program forward in a positive and sucessful manner.

"We are delighted to welcome her as the new head coach. She will be an asset to Brigham Young University and its athletic program."

Upon receiving the appointment, Adams said, "I am looking forward to being women's basketball coach at BYU. This opportunity is something I've looked forward to and have hoped for during most of my professional career."
