A California teen narrowly avoided serious injury after falling while hiking near Sundance Wednesday afternoon.

Jared Livesey, 19, Bakersfield, Calif., was hiking near Stewart Falls when the tree branch he was using for a handhold broke free. He rolled approximately 20 feet from the path he was traversing and struck a pine tree.Utah County sheriff's search and rescue teams were called to the scene, where they found Livesey in good condition.

Although he initially refused treatment, Livesey was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo for treatment of some scratches, cuts and bruises. He was released just hours later.
