Fire investigators believe a burglar may have started a fire Friday that caused $50,000 to $75,000 damage to the Skippers Seafood 'n Chowder House at 5575 S. Redwood.

Firefighters called to the 7:19 a.m. fire expected to find fire raging in the kitchen area but found it burning from the restaurant's office instead, said Salt Lake County Battalion Chief Tom Bogle."There is evidence of a possible burglary," said fire Capt. Lowell Mikolash. "The initial reports are that the fire was probably set."

A passer-by who saw the fire before firefighters arrived believed there was a person inside the restaurant. But firefighters found no one inside, Mikolash said.
