A proposal calling for single people to refrain from sex was narrowly rejected by a body of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) after gay activists attacked it as unfair.

The church's 206th General Assembly turned back proposals Wednesday calling for fidelity for married people and sexual abstinence for single people.A report with no language dealing with sexual conduct was adopted on a vote of 277-258.
