We are a group of students from the department of family and consumer studies at the University of Utah. We have recently been involved in a project in which our group chose to address the problem of hunger in Utah.
Through our investigation and participation in projects associated with the food bank, we discovered that although the need for donated food is great, the need for volunteers is even greater. There are a number of areas in which a minimal investment of time could help feed a large number of people. For example: In one hour an individual can sort enough food to feed 250 people. In one hour, a person can deliver three food boxes to home-bound or disabled individuals who are unable to take advantage of the local pantries. There are several other areas needing volunteers as well.
