"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths." (Prov. 3:5-6)

In 1969, several months before my planned temple marriage, my happy anticipation came to an abrupt end when my fiancee was killed in a military helicopter crash. It was a difficult time for me, but with the help of the scriptures and the passage of time, it became a meaningful experience. This scripture gave me the most comfort. As I read the words and pondered it, I realized that the Lord knows and can see the bigger picture of our life. It was such a comfort to know I was part of His plan, that I didn't need to understand all things, and that all I needed to do was submit to His will and He would lead the way.

The way I applied this scripture to me was by immersing myself in coming to an understanding of how I fit into this part of His plan. Since I had the knowledge of my fiancee's desire to complete the temple work for his deceased (non-member) family, I obtained permission to search out the records of these people and submit their names to the temple for ordinance work to be completed.

Time passed and within a year I met and married a wonderful priesthood holder in the Los Angeles Temple. I came to realize the blessings of allowing the Lord to direct my path.

This scripture has been a comfort and given me the support I've needed throughout my life as I've trusted that the Lord's path brings the greatest understanding and the greatest joy. - Submitted by Marilyn Crandall, Cedar City, Utah.
