SHARE EX-UINTAH OFFICER PLEADS GUILTY IN THEFT

A former Uintah police officer entered a guilty plea Monday to a second-degree felony theft charge for stealing $2,000 from a convenience store where he worked.

Ross Kennedy entered his plea following negotiations before 2nd District Judge Stanton Taylor. Sentencing has been set for July 18.In exchange for his guilty plea, the state agreed to drop the charge to a third-degree felony once restitution is paid and Kennedy completes a successful period of probation.

Kennedy was employed as a clerk at Auto Fuel Plaza in the small community south of Ogden. He falsified reports and stole money from a store safe.

Uintah Police Chief Craig Kennedy said Kennedy had been a reserve officer before working part time for the department. He said he asked for Kennedy's resignation after learning of the charge.
