SHARE PAPER WINS JUDGMENT AGAINST JACKSON FAMILY

A Korean-language newspaper won a $4 million judgment against Michael Jackson's parents and brother Jermaine, among others, over an unsung concert.

The judgment did not involve Michael Jackson himself. The Segye Times of San Francisco, negotiating with Jackson family members through an intermediary, paid $6 million to sponsor a Jackson concert in 1989.

"It turned out that Michael was not going to do the concert and furthermore Michael had never authorized them to negotiate," Times lawyer Edwin L. Bradley said.

When the deal fell through, the newspaper recovered more than $4 million, and sued for the rest.

A judge awarded the newspaper $2 million and ordered Joseph, Katherine and Jermaine Jackson to pay another $2 million in punitive damages.

The March decision was not publicized until this week because the newspaper was waiting for an appeals deadline to pass, Times spokesman Michael Kim said.
