Contrary to rumors, the office of Utah Power in Salina, Sevier County, has not been closed. But power company officials admit that possibility exists.
Like other business, Utah Power needs to look at the options available to keep costs in balance, according to Paul Henry, district manager at Richfield. "Officially, we are looking at the possibility of closing the Salina Utah Power office."Jobs may not be lost if the closure ultimately becomes a reality because of several approaching retirements in the Gunnison and Salina offices and some consolidation. "We would have the least impact on personnel by making the changes this year," Henry said.
Utah Power officials will explore with Salina's mayor and other entities the effect closing the facility would have on the community, Henry said.
"We will notify all the people involved with an official notice, perhaps a press release informing the community of our decision, if and when it happens," the manager said.
