Raymond William Ely, 64, of Provo, Utah was taken peacefully back to the arms of his Savior on Saturday, June 18, 1994.
He was born February 9, 1930 in Los Angeles, California to Carrie Smith Thomas and John Jay Ely. Ray attended Dorsey High School in Los Angeles, served an honorable LDS mission to Spanish-speaking areas of Texas and New Mexico. He was honorably discharged from the Army, serving during the Korean conflict. A graduate of Brigham Young University where he served as Senior Class President of the class of 1959, graduating in business and accounting.His love of his fellow man was prevalent throughout his life. He was a man of gentleness, kindness and had the pure love of Christ which touched the lives of many with his acts of charity. His selfless love will always be remembered.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of nearly 38 years, Thora Jean Bramwell, who he married in the Los Angeles LDS Temple; his four children, Lisa Rajean Ely Ashby, Gregory Bramwell Ely, David Ammon Ely, and Julianne Love Rowley; also 10 grandchildren; his brother, John Thomas Ely of Ogden; two sisters of Los Angeles, Ida Robinson and Ruth Ann Ely. He was preceded in death by his sister, Florence (Betty) Smith.
He was an active member of the high priest quorum and also served on the high council, stake missionary, ward clerk, and actively serving as a home teacher in the Edgemont 13th Ward at the time of his departure from this earth.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, June 22, 1994 at the Edgemont North 13th Ward Chapel, 4000 North Foothill Drive, Provo. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center Street, Provo, and one hour prior to service at the ward. Interment at East Lawn Memorial Hills in Provo.
