Appearing before a parliamentary budget committee, former Japan Prime Minister Morihiro Hosokawa denied Tuesday that he failed to pay back a loan worth $970,000. He also denied involvement in a 1986 stock purchase made in his father-in-law's name. Hosokawa resigned in April amid charges of financial improprieties.
