Mary Alice Cannon Barnes, 80, passed away peacefully in her Avenues home June 20, 1994.

She was born May 24, 1914 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of Edwin Q. and Luella W. Cannon. She graduated from LDS High School and the University of Utah. Married Robert H. Barnes, September 7, 1935 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death. She was very actively involved in the LDS Church throughout her life. Her willing service in many capacities, including head of many auxiliary organizations and missions with her husband to the Washington D.C. Temple and the Church History Museum in Salt Lake City, held special memories for her.She is survived by her two brothers, Edwin Q. (Ted) and William W. Cannon, Salt Lake City; her five children, Mary Pearson, Salt Lake City; Kathryn Vernon Luke, Reston, Virginia; Pat Barnes, Roanoke, Virginia; Ted Barnes, Park City, Utah; and Bill Barnes, Salt Lake City. She has 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services Thursday, June 23rd, at 12 noon, Salt Lake 18th Ward Chapel, 135 North A Street. Friends may call Wednesday evening, 6-8 p.m., at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, and at the ward on Thursday, 10:45-11:45 a.m. Burial will be next to her husband in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to: Boy Scouts of America-Memorial Tribute Fund, 525 Foothill Blvd., SLC, Utah 84113-1199.
