Sister M. Thecla Mahony, CCVI, died at St. Placidus Convent, Houston, Texas, Monday, June 20, 1994 at 12 noon.

Sister Thecla was born in Mount Rodger, Gneeveguilla, Rathmore, Co. Kerry, Ireland on February 1, 1915, the daughter of Patrick and Nora McCarthy Mahony. Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, in Carrigoran, Co. Clair, Ireland on March 18, 1933 where she received her religious formation before coming to the United States on October 21, 1934. She made her first Vows at Villa de Matel, on May 5, 1938, and her final vows on June 6, 1944. During her many years of joyful ministry, Sister Thecla served in many health care apostolates of the Congregation: including Santa Fe Hospital, Temple, Texas, St. Mary's Hospital, Galveston, Texas, St. Therese Hospital, Beaumont, Texas, Hotel Dieu Hospital Beaumont, Texas, St. Mary's Home, Lafayette, La., St. Mary's Hospital, Port Arthur, Texas, St. Patrick's Hospital, Lake Charles, La., St. Joseph's Hospital, Houston, Texas, St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Beaumont, Texas, Schumpert Memorial Hospital, Shreveport, La., and St. Anthony's Home, Houston, Texas. She served as administrator of St. Placidus Convent, Houston, Texas, and St. Joseph's Villa, Salt Lake City, Utah. Following her retirement in 1988, she offered her services as a volunteer in Parish Ministry for six years at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Helper, Utah where she was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.Sister Thecla is preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Sheila Mahony and a brother, Jamie Mahony.

She is survived by two brothers, Dennis and Jeremiah Mahony of Co. Kerry, Ireland; and four sisters, Mrs. E.J. (Molly) Handlin, Worcester, Mass.; Mrs. J.D. (Kathleen) Scannel, Co. Kerry, Ireland; Mrs. Christie (Teresa) O'Connor, and Mrs. Frank (Aileen) Cafferty of St. Alban's Hertz, England.

Wake services will be held at Villa De Matel Chapel, 6510 Lawndale Ave., Houston on Tuesday, June 21st at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at Villa De Matel Chapel, 6510 Lawndale Ave., Houston, on Wednesday, June 22nd at 11 a.m., followed by interment in the Convent Cemetery.
