The large building under construction on 2700 South, just west of RC Willey Home Furnishings and Bluff Road, isn't a public school, a detention home or halfway house - despite rumors.
It's the Island View Treament Center, a private school for learning-disabled youths. The center, located on the edge of Syracuse on land recently annexed into the city, is being built by Big D Construction.
According to Kathy Holt, Syracuse assistant city recorder, the building is being funded by a group of doctors. She said it is not intended to treat mentally retarded children but rather those with dyslexia or other learning disabilities.
