SHARE BISHOP WEIGAND SET TO PRESIDE AT ORDINATION OF 3 TO PRIESTHOOD

The Most Rev. William K. Weigand, bishop of Sacramento and former bishop of the Salt Lake Catholic Diocese, will preside at the ordination today of David Joseph Bittmenn, Michael Sciumbato and Erik John Richtsteig to the priesthood.

Langes Jaime Silva will be ordained to the diaconate (deacon) at the same gathering at 10 a.m. in the Cathedral of the Madeleine.The three men to be ordained priests will remain in the Salt Lake Catholic Diocese, said Julie Anderson of the diocese communications office.

Richtsteig was born in Cedar City and later moved to Salt Lake City where he graduated from Highland High School in 1983. He graduated from the University of Utah with bachelor's and master's degrees in philosophy and is working on a doctorate in philosophy from Marquette University.

He received a master of divinity degree last year from Mount Angel Seminary in Oregon. He is the son of Kristen Barnes and the late Maj. David Richtsteig.

Sciumbato, the son of Angelina and the late Rosario Sciumbato, is a native Salt Laker. He graduated from South High in 1974 and graduated in 1977 with a degree in journalism and mass communications from the University of Utah, received a law degree from the U. in 1981 and graduated from Mount Angel Seminary earlier this year.

Bittmenn, the son of Joseph and Ida Bittmenn, graduated from Tooele High School in 1984. In 1989 he received a degree in political science and economics from the U. and graduated from Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio, in 1994.

A son of Luis Hernando and Cruz Elena Silva, New York, Silva was born in Medellin, Colombia, and has lived in Salt Lake City since March 1993.
