The price of culinary water is going up in Fillmore, with the increase effective Friday.
Officials announced that monthly minimum rates are being increased from $10 to $12 for the first 10,000 gallons of water at each residence. The second 10,000 gallons of use will be 35 cents per 1,000 gallons, a hike of 6 cents above the previous 29 cents that has been charged. The increase is necessary to generate revenue for new debt service to finance the third phase of a water improvement project that will be completed this year, it was announced. Some improvements were completed in 1982 and others in 1986.
Water storage tanks will get the major part of the expenditures under this year's program. The city plans construction of a 1.5 million gallon storage tank and will replace two existing tanks that have been deteriorating.
Also on the water improvement agenda will be replacing 1,700 feet of pipe in the distribution system, installing a new booster pump, and miscellaneous upgrading of the culinary system.
