Local real estate developer Don Cofer wants to develop a park for mobile homes in the city's industrial park.

He's offered to purchase a little more than four acres at a total price of about $9,000, enough space for 20 or so units.Cofer told the city that the facility is needed because of growth and the demand for low-cost housing. People are moving in because of job opportunities but are finding it difficult to obtain housing at prices they can afford.

And rental property is in very short supply, he said.

Mayor Kent Larsen said the city administration will consider Cofer's proposition, which involves making payments as places in the proposed park are sold, after Cofer makes an initial down payment.

But the mayor explained that before a decision can be made, the city will have to make careful studies on the costs of providing utilities - water, sewer and power - as well as access to the acreage.
