A July 15 preliminary hearing date has been set for a 17-year-old Ogden youth accused of stabbing to death an elderly man.
Victor Melendrez was charged Tuesday with first-degree felony murder for killing 63-year-old Ogden resident Darrel Christensen. He appeared before 2nd Circuit Judge Pamela Heffernan.Melendrez was apprehended in New Mexico earlier this year where he had been living with relatives. He was charged in 2nd District Juvenile Court, and earlier this week he was certified as an adult to stand trial for the murder.
Christensen's body was found inside his home April 18. Police believe the victim died the previous day. Autopsy results showed that Christensen had been stabbed 21 times in the chest and his left arm was broken.
