Now that John Grisham is the novelist of choice in Hollywood, even his first novel - which made the studio rounds several years ago without finding a buyer - is becoming grist for the film mill.
Warner is reported to have the inside track for the book, "A Time to Kill," because Grisham likes what the studio did with "The Firm," which made him a millionaire.Warner's next Grisham film, "The Client," for which it paid $2 million, opens July 20. Offers of about $6 million are currently being made for Grisham's next novel, "The Rainmaker." So it is no surprise that "A Time to Kill" is attracting offers like $4 million. It's about a white attorney who defends a black man who killed his daughter's rapists.
