A man claiming to be carrying dynamite robbed a Central City bank Monday, then left his "bomb" behind.
Police evacuated the bank and later disrupted the device, which ended up being just a bag with "miscellaneous electronic components."The man entered Washington Federal Savings, 505 E. 200 South, about 10:45 a.m. Monday, waited in line, then announced that he was robbing the bank. The suspect warned that he had dynamite inside the bag and demanded money, said Salt Lake Police Lt. Jim Jensen.
The man then left with an undetermined amount of cash after leaving the bag on the counter. Employees called police. Investigators determined there was no bomb.
A man with a similar description who also claimed to have a bomb recently robbed a bank in Cheyenne, Wyo.
