A 19-year-old mother has regained custody of the 16-month-old child she had left briefly in a car but still could face neglect charges.
The woman said she thought she would be in the nearby building only a few minutes Monday night, but she ended up being gone 20 minutes.Meanwhile, police came by. They said the windows were rolled up and the girl was crying and perspiring heavily.
They took the child into protective custody.
A juvenile court commissioner told the mother Tuesday that she made a serious mistake but could have her child back while the county attorney reviews the case.
