Need something to do? Get lost. Better yet, take a hike.
Or best of all, do both by taking part in an Orienteering Challenge at the Utah Winter Sports Park, Park City, on Saturday, July 2, from 8 a.m. to noon. The Sports Park is located one mile off I-80 at the Kimball Junction exit next to Park City.Of course the challenge, hosted by the Utah's Governor's Council on Health and Physical Fitness, is to help people do anything but get lost. It involves using a map and compass to navigate through an outlined course in the mountains. Maps will be furnished and compasses made available to participants. Orienteering experts will be on hand to help people through the 11/2-hour course. The challenge is free to participants.
Darlene Uzelac, council executive director, says orienteering is mentally and physically challenging, but no one should be intimidated. There are different courses for varied abilities, as well as volunteers to help.
