SHARE PACKARD WINS BANKING AWARD

F. Calvin Packard, chairman and chief executive officer of Central Bank and Trust, Springville, was presented the Distinguished Banker Award Tuesday night at the Utah Bankers Association's awards banquet.

UBA President Lawrence W. Alder said the Distinguished Banker citation is given to recognize a lifetime of outstanding achievement in banking and community service.Packard graduated with a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University. He became a member

of the board of directors of Springville Banking Company, which his family owned, in 1955 and vice president in 1961. When he started his career, the bank's assets were $4.26 million. With a merger in 1966 with the State Bank of Provo - resulting in the current Central Bank & Trust Company - the bank's assets grew in twenty years to $35 million. Today, the bank has assets of $170 million.

Packard became president of Central Bank and Trust in 1973, and was named chairman of the board four years later.
