In an eternal quest to improve the quality of life on Earth, mechanical engineering student Joseph Miles prepares his FTC (Frisbee Throwing Device) for a shot at the target during a competition Thursday at the University of Utah. Each student used a design kit to build a device to launch Frisbees toward the target - a 2-foot-diameter hole in a 64-square-foot vertical wall. If perfected, the FTC could become a useful product, particularly for Frisbee-tossing contests at halftime at Jazz games.
