"Down under," Australia is celebrating "The International Year of the Family" proclaimed by the United Nations this year. The theme is "Family: Resources and Responsibilities in a Changing World."
Australia's tribute is three stamps featuring illustrations by Australian children, which were the winning entries in a national competition by the Australian Postal Service in conjunction with some 8,000 primary schools. The 45-cent stamp was the work of Bobbie-Lea Blackmore in the "under 7 years of age" competition. Her drawing shows a family at play. The 75-cent stamp was designed by Kathryn Teoh in the "7-to-9" category. Her drawing depicts various members of the family in a summer setting. The $1-stamp was illustrated by Maree McCarthy in the "10-to-12" category. She portrays Aborigines around a campfire.
Your local stamp dealer should be able to provide you with the new Australian stamps.
