No employee of the Davis County Public Works Department received a traffic citation last year, making all of them eligible for the county's Safe Driver Award program.

Director Sid Smith said since the safety program went into effect five years ago, no department employee has received a moving citation while on the job, a record Smith said is enviable.A check of each employee's driving record is done each year, Smith said, because most are involved in driving county-owned heavy equipment, snowplows and trucks.

Of the current 26 employees, nine have a clean driving record for the past five years, Smith said, and three employees have gone four years with no citations.

Employees are given certificates in addition to hats, T-shirts and sweatshirts for a clean driving record.
