Michael Blackburn of Bicknell, Wayne County, has been elected president of the board of directors of the Garkane Power Association.
Members also chose three incumbents during annual elections to serve additional three-year director terms: George Blackburn, Fremont, Wayne County, District 2; Terry Griffiths, Orderville, Kane County, District 5; Nolan Button, Kanab, District 7.Griffths will also serve as secretary-treasurer of the board and Bill Nelson, Cannonville, Garfield County, a holdover board member, was named vice president. Nelson will also serve on the board of directors of the Utah Rural Electric Association.
It was also announced that retiring president LaDon Tor-ger-sen was appointed Garkane's trustee with the Deseret Generation and Transportation Cooperative. Bill Loman of Swain's Creek, Kane County, will represent the cooperative on the board of directors of the Intermountain Consumer Power Association.
Loman is a holdover director along with the board president and Markie Lee Spencer of Escalante, Garfield County.
Swanson foundation gives $200,000 for U. awards
The W.C. Swanson Family Foundation has awarded $200,000 for scholarships to the University of Utah.
The foundation created an endowment that the U. will use for honors-at-entrance scholarships. The donation is part of a $1 million commitment to new scholarship endowment funds at other schools as well as the U.
