Construction began Wednesday on a state-of-the-art $20 million Coca-Cola bottling plant in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi.

The plant - which represents one of the first major Vietnamese-U.S. joint venture projects - is expected to produce 8.5 million cases of Coca-Cola and Sprite each year. The facility will be built on a 10.9-acre (four-hectare) site and will feature a 600 per minute bottling line and canning facility.

The factory will be owned and operated by Coca-Cola Ngoc Hoi Soft Drinks Co., a joint venture between Coca-Cola Indochina and the Vietnam National Import-Export Corp.
