What with competitive air fares and the accessibility of San Francisco's theater district, there seems to be growing interest in Salt Lake area residents in traveling to the Bay area for "The Phantom of the Opera" as well as productions that haven't been scheduled - as yet - for Salt Lake City.

"Phantom" is coming here in March of 1996, but hundreds of Utahns saw it several times during its Los Angeles run, and it continues to be a major West Coast drawing card. Some shows of interest now and in the near future:

- "Phantom of the Opera," Curran Theatre, 445 Geary St. (open-ended run).

- "The Who's `Tommy,' " now through July 3 in the War Memorial Opera House.

- "The Great Radio City Music Hall Spectacular" with the Rockettes and Susan Anton, June 28-July 24 at the Golden Gate Theatre.

For tickets to these three productions, call 1-415-776-1999 or 1-510-762-BASS.

- "Beach Blanket Babylon," celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and touted as America's longest-running musical revue. It's at the Club Fugazi in North Beach (678 Green near Powell). For reservations, call 1-415-421-4222.
