An annual fund-raiser for Primary Children's Medical Center, the Primary Children's Miracle Network Telethon, will be broadcast on KSL-TV today and Sunday, say the promotion's planners.
The telethon will be seen on Channel 5 from 7 p.m. today through 5 p.m. Sunday. "One hundred percent of the proceeds raised locally benefit needy children" at the hospital, said telethon coordinator Colleen Clark. For 20 minutes of every hour, the telethon will feature stories of courageous children who have been or are being treated at the medical center. Community leaders, donors and medical experts will be interviewed.
Many celebrities will co-host the program in national segments that will go on the air from Disneyland, including singer Marie Osmond and actor John Schneider. Also starring will be Merlin Olsen, Marilyn McCoo, Rich Little and Mary Hart.
Locally, the focus will be on Carole Mikita, Doug Wright, Bruce Lindsay, Amanda Dickson and others.
Those wishing to contribute can call in pledges by dialing 588-2345 in the Salt Lake area, or toll-free from other locations at 1-800-762-7276.
Meanwhile, Debbi Fields, founder of Mrs. Fields Cookies, will be repeating her "Cookie Care and Share Days" to raise money for the hospital. As she did last month, she will be donating the proceeds from the sale of many thousands of her famous cookies.
On Saturday, her fresh-baked cookies will be offered to the public at a suggested donation of 50 cents. All of the sales will go to the medical center to help its charity care mission.
Fields herself was to be among the volunteers selling her cookies at various outlets in northern Utah.
