OperaFest '94 will salute the achievement of Utah Opera's Young Artists with a lively community celebration for all ages on Friday, June 10, from 5-9 p.m. at the Gallivan Center in downtown Salt Lake City, 200 South between Main and State streets.
Festivities from 5 to 8 p.m. include strolling entertainers, serenading gondoliers, folk and belly dancers, face painting, concessions and food vendors. A Middle Eastern buffet will take place at 6:30 p.m. "under the tent." Reservations for the buffet must be made in advance by calling 278-4928 or 943-8861."The Emperor's New Clothes," a one-act children's opera, will be performed by U.O.'s Opera in the Schools ensemble at 5:30 p.m., with an open-air concert in the amphitheater by U.O.'s Young Artists, the U.O. Chorus and Utah Chamber Orchestra between 8 and 9 p.m.
Admission is $5 per person, $15 family pass and $50 for the dinner. Proceeds will benefit the young artists program, to match a challenge grant from the NEA.
