As the parent of a graduating high school senior, I found the article about Frances Schreuder's college degree very interesting.
I have watched my child study endlessly to pull top grades and high citizenship marks. I have seen my child fill out numerous scholarship applications and look into federal giants, just to try to find some way to afford college. I have seen my child worry about her SAT and ACT tests to see if she could even be accepted in a college or university. I have seen her take difficult college-credit classes in high school to try to get a head start for college. My child was preparing for college by being an outstanding citizen and performing community service when all she really needed to do for a free education was to commit a crime.
What kind of society is it we live in when criminals get all the education and degrees they want, and our children have to struggle just to be able to afford college?
